Peter M. Kenney, age 65, of Scituate, died peacefully on January 18, 2014 at his home surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer. Peter was the beloved husband of Susan Shillue, and the devoted father of Michael Kenney and his wife Aileen of Milton, and his stepchildren, Jake Shillue and Sophie Shillue. He was the adoring grandfather of John Joseph and Matthew Peter Kenney. He was the son of the late Phillip and Barbara Kenney and the brother of Mary Sullivan and husband John of Falmouth, Patricia McCarthy and husband John of Whitman, Frank Kenney and wife Jeanne of Brewster, Phillip Kenney and wife Patricia of Brookline, Michael Kenney and partner Nancy Loubier of Quincy, and Judy Cotter and husband the late William Cotter of Quincy. Peter was the beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Raised in the Adams Shore section of Quincy, Peter was a graduate of Boston College High School, Class of 1966, and UMass Amherst in 1970. He was a longtime employee of Cook and Company of Marshfield. He was the Executive Secretary to former Quincy Mayor Francis X. McCauley from 1982-1990. For many years he was a coach of youth soccer, baseball, and basketball in Quincy. Peter was also a member of the Quincy Parks and Recreation Board. He enjoyed gardening, coaching sports, fishing, birding, and spending time with his family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 10 am in St. Anthony Church, 10 Summer St., Cohasset. Visiting hours Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. Interment private.
