Randolph Joseph Picknarcik
July 31, 1938 – May 27, 2024
"I was born at an early age," he liked to say. Rand was born July 31, 1938 and entered into rest on May 27, 2024. He survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia (Brown) Picknarcik and his daughter, Joy Calapai, son Jason Picknarcik, and grandchildren Mitchell, Samantha, and Christina Calapai. He was pre deceased by his son in law, Joseph Calapai.
Rand had great comedic timing and could bring laughter into any situation. He was also a convincing storyteller; he told his kids that he rode a dinosaur to school and told his grandchildren that he invented color. He had us all believing it too!
His hobbies were tennis (watching and playing), spending time with family, attending Mass and learning new things (he was the first to learn computer programming (early 1980s), healthy eating (mid 1980s), and pickleball (in his 80s). He was a founding member of the Friends of the Psychiatrically Disabled group which supported people with disabilities. He volunteered in a school until last year, when his declining health didn't allow him to do it any more. He babysat all of his grandchildren, and attended all of their school and sports events.
Rand started his career as a Catholic priest but found this didn't suit him, and earned his Master's Degree in Vocational Counseling and worked with people with psychiatric disabilities from 1983-2004. He remained devoted to the church throughout his life, watching online when he couldn't attend in person.
Rand died after a fierce battle with cancer and will be sorely missed.
