Raymond M. Henderson, age 87, of Norwell, passed away on June 16, 2013. Mr. Henderson was the beloved husband of the late Anne M. (Cochran) and devoted mother of James W. Henderson and wife Beverly of Norwell, David Henderson and wife Mary Pat Burtt-Henderson of Whitman, Michael Henderson and wife Carol of Weymouth, Ann St. Aubin and husband, Bruce of Hanover, Jane Heying and husband Kevin of Brunswick, GA., and Edward Henderson of Norwell. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The only child of William M. and Martha F (Morey) Henderson, Ray grew up as a poultry farmer in Norwell. A Call Firefighter in Norwell, Ray worked as the Sexton for the First Parish Church in Norwell and the Norwell Public Library. Attending night school to learn the oil burner trade, he worked at the lumber yard in Cohasset for many years. Ray also worked for over 25 years as an oil burner technician. A Grange member, Ray was an avid square dance caller. Mr. Henderson served the Town of Norwell proudly in many different capacities, including custodian of the town hall, police and fire dispatcher, assistant animal control, among others.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 10 am in The First Parish Unitarian Church, 24 River St., Norwell Center. Visiting hours Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center. Interment First Parish Cemetery, Norwell Center.
