Richard T. "Dick" Callahan, of Norwell, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2014 with his devoted wife and loving daughters by his side. He was 81 years old. The youngest of nine children, Dick grew up in Dorchester in St. Gregory's Parish. He worked at Logan Airport for 32 years as a supply supervisor with Pan Am Airlines, and later as a cargo supervisor with Delta Airlines.
Cherished husband for 42 years of Peggy (Morris) Callahan. Proud father of Julie Callahan of Norwell, and Maryluz (Callahan) Greenwood and her husband John of Taunton. Loving grandfather, affectionately known as "Papa", to Tyler Greenwood. He was a devoted brother to Ruth DeLuca of Lunenburg, as well as, the late Annie Callahan, Michael Callahan, Dorothy Madden, James Callahan Jr., Mary Havey, Jane Mullaney, and Margaret Coveney. Being the youngest of a large family, Dick was the favorite Uncle to his many nieces and nephews and has always loved spending time with family and friends.
Dick enjoyed traveling, dancing, reading and painting. He was an active member of St. Helen's Parish, he sang in the choir and also volunteered in various outreach programs with his wife Peggy and daughter Julie. Dick will be remembered for his big heart and bright smile. A kind, caring, and wonderful husband, father, and friend, who will be missed by all.
Visiting hours Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 from 3-7 pm in McNamara Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center. A Funeral Mass to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014 at 10 am in St. Helen Church, 383 Washington Street, Norwell, MA. Interment Washington Street Cemetery, Norwell.
