Obituary

Richard W. Hatch, aged 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 20, 2025 at South Shore Hospital after a brief illness.

Richard was born March 3,1939 in Weymouth, Massachusetts to the late John W. Hatch and Eleanor M. Hatch.

He was lifelong Hingham resident and attended Hingham Schools.  Richard went directly into the military and was a proud Veteran of the U.S Army.

Richard retired in 2000, as a Captain on the Hingham Fire Department after 32 years of service. Richard possessed an unparalleled work ethic dedicating countless hours to his  profession while still finding time to be there for his family.

He was the proud owner of his own company Dependable Pest Control which he ran until a few years ago. He and his late wife Barbara owned "Poor Richard's Farm" in Hingham, MA.

One of his greatest passions was restoring hot rods, old farm tractors, and attending car shows with his friends.  He had an avid love of the outdoors and enjoyed traveling with his wife Martha.  He loved hanging out with his loyal companion - his cat Ollie.  Richard also loved going to Twin Rivers and Foxwoods.

Richard's kindness, generosity, and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He believed in building not just structures but also relationships and memories that will last the test of time.

Richard was the devoted husband of Martha L. Engstrom of Hingham and the late Barbara L. Hatch. He is survived by his loving daughter Christine M. Hatch of Hull, Massachusetts.

Loving brother of Barbara McIntyre of Hingham, Robert Hatch, & his wife Pat,  of  Plainville, CT, Stephen Hatch, & his wife Jane, of Weymouth, and his brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Philip and Ingrid Ecklund of Simi Valley, CA.

Richard is also survived by many loving family members, and in particular, his nephew William McIntyre.
