Richard James Pope

Richard James Pope, 83, of Scituate, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on August 6, 2026. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, kindness and devotion to his beloved BC Eagles. 

Richard was the son of the late George F. and Eunice B. Pope of Cohasset, MA and the younger brother of George D. Pope (Madelyn) of Scituate, MA. 

Richard was a proud graduate of Cohasset High School and Boston College. His management career concentrated on the distribution of consumer products. Throughout his life he was an avid sports fan with appreciation for competition, sportsmanship and hard work. 

Richard’s greatest joy was his family. He was thoughtful and genuinely interested in all his grandchildren’s activities. He was always on the sidelines, court side and in the audience. He enjoyed staying connected with them and evolving his proficiency with emojis. 

Richard is survived by his wife Susan (Sullivan.) They married in 1967 and had a partnership that spanned nearly 60 years. He leaves his daughter Kara Bianchi (Scott) of Cohasset, MA, son Chris Pope (Joanne) of Marblehead, MA, and his grandchildren Julia and Celia Bianchi, Olivia and Kyle Pope. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 21st, at 10:00AM at St. Anthony’s of Padua Church, 2 Summer Street, Cohasset, MA. 

Burial Services will take place privately.
