Richard (Dick) Straley of Norwell and formerly of Hull, passed into eternal rest on January 2, 2014. He was the loving husband to the late Suzanne Straley for 47 years, devoted father of Richard G. Straley of Hull, Jennifer Sherman of Norwell, and Kevin Straley of Norwell. Cherished Grandfather of Jake, Alexei, Owen and Ryan. Father in law to Beth Straley, Stu Sherman, and Karen Straley. He is survived by his brother David of Mansfield and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. Son of the late Robert and Helen Straley, brother of the late James Straley and the late Joanne Flaherty.
His life of achievements began as a twelve year old runner when he joined the 1950 Boston Marathon as a spur of the moment participant and completed the race in torn moccasins passing the legendary Clarence DeMar towards the end of the twenty six miles. After graduating from Newton North High School he joined the Army and served at Fort Lee, VA and Germany for four years, he was honorably discharged as a Specialist 4th Class. He bought the iconic gift store Cards & Shards in Cohasset Central Village with his wife in 1975 and ran it successfully for twenty-six years. He was honored by the Cohasset Chamber of Commerce with the Forrest E. King Award, an award for his years of service to the business community. Richard had a love for horse racing, card games, and a cheerful greeting for all new arrivals to his presence each day.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 6th, 2014 at 11AM at United Church of Christ, 460 Main Street, Norwell. Memorial visiting hours Sunday, January 5th, 2014 from 2-5 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. Interment private.
