Richard E. Sweeney, 72, of Scituate, MA passed away on October 28th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Medford, son of Thomas Sweeney and Elizabeth (Pero) Sweeney. He graduated from Medford Vocational Technical School in 1971. He worked as an Electrician for the MBTA for 20+ years and was a proud member of IBEW Local 103 for over 50 years.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Kathleen (Garrity) Sweeney of 42 years, his son Ryan Sweeney and wife Lea of Scituate, his daughter Kerin Sweeney of Scituate, his grandchildren Sophie and Chloe, his siblings Robert Sweeney and his wife Gail of Florida, Paul Sweeney and his wife Donna of Maine, and John Sweeney and his partner Richard of Dracut, as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother Thomas Sweeney, sister Eileen Jenks and brother William Sweeney.

He loved all Boston sports teams - especially the Patriots. He was a talented photographer known for his sunrise pictures and capturing precious moments. His biggest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. Richard lit up any room he walked into with his smile and infectious joy for life and love for those around him. He was always helping others, whether it be lending a hand to a neighbor or donating to local charities.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 from 4-7pm at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home-1 Summer Street, Cohasset.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 10am at St. Mary of the Nativity-1 Kent Street, Scituate, MA. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Scituate.
