FL   Richard Singleton Tibbetts, 89, passed away on September 3rd after a brief illness. He was a long-time resident of Scituate, MA prior to retiring to Naples.
Dick was born in Roslindale, MA in 1922, the son of the late Margaret "Rita" L. (Wilson) and Harry L. Tibbetts. He is predeceased by his brother Lt. Col. Lester K. Tibbetts, and sisters Beatrice Kenney, and Constance Ray.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth (Carroll) Tibbetts; four sons, Joseph V. Tibbetts and his wife Terry, Richard S. Tibbetts, Jr. and his wife Edith, Edward C. Tibbetts and his wife Sarah all of Scituate, and Peter H. Tibbetts and his wife Fiona of Dublin, NH; one granddaughter; ten grandsons; one great granddaughter; two great grandsons; and eighteen nieces and nephews.

He grew up in the Roslindale/West Roxbury area. Mr. Tibbetts served in the US Army Signal Corps during World War II from 1942-1945, participating in five campaigns in the European Theater of Operations.After his discharge and four years in post-war Japan, Mr. Tibbetts moved to Scituate and founded Scituate Associates, Inc., a real estate development company.  Together with his wife, Mary, he built more than 100 homes in Scituate and other south shore towns.

Mr. Tibbetts was a member and Past Commodore of Scituate Harbor Yacht Club, VFW Scituate Post 3169, and former long-time member of the Builders Association of Greater Boston.  Mr. Tibbetts also served the town of Scituate as a member of the Advisory Committee.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 10 am in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 465 First Parish Road, Scituate, MA. Visiting hours Sunday, September  9, 2012 from 4-8 pm in the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. Interment at Union Cemetery, Meeting House Lane, Scituate, MA.

In lieu of flowers gifts in his memory may be made to Norwell Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 06061
