Robert George Colby

Robert George Colby, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and retired detective, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 80 years old.

Born on May 19, 1945, in Boston, Massachusetts, Robert built a life defined by service, family, and quiet strength.

He proudly served as a Detective with the Hanover Police Department for 33 years. He deeply valued his work—not for recognition, but for the opportunity to help others and to be part of a brotherhood he respected and loved.

Above all, Robert was a family man.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Theresa, whom he loved deeply and cared for with constant thoughtfulness. Through small handwritten notes and meaningful gestures, he made sure she always felt special, safe, and cherished.

To many, Robert was known as a man of few words—a strong, steady presence. But those closest to him knew his softer side: a deeply caring and compassionate man who was always there in moments of need, no matter the hour or circumstance.

He took great pride in his grandchildren—Madeline, Benjamin, Eleanor, and Oliver—and loved watching them grow, attending their sporting events and school activities, and simply enjoying being in their presence. Even as his health declined, he found joy in being surrounded by their energy and laughter.

He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; his daughters, Tina O’Brien and Rachael Vaccaro; his son, Ralph Studley, and daughter-in-law, Katie; and his cherished grandchildren, Madeline, Benjamin, Eleanor, and Oliver. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and former colleagues.

Robert will be remembered as a man who showed up—for his family, for his community, and for those in need. His life is a testament to quiet strength, dedication, and the power of love and service.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Church in Cohasset at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 1, 2026, followed by a reception at Hatherly Country Club in Scituate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hanover Police Boys Club-550 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA 02339.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
