Obituary

Robert John Sullivan, affectionately known as Sully, of Scituate, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2023, with his loving wife Beverly, who was his true love, by his side and surrounded by his family.

Sully was born on February 5, 1943 to the late Russell and Ruth Sullivan.  He grew up in Quincy Point, and following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He proudly served in the Army and then went on to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves.  He took great pride in his service to the Community as a Norwell Police Sergeant.  During his career, he was dedicated to his role as a Fire Arms Instructor, the D.A.R.E. Program, and was always there to help people.   He also worked at Procter & Gamble and General Dynamics in Quincy.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Rockland, MA, Council #165, and took great satisfaction in the founding of the Boy's Club in Norwell, later becoming the Hanover Boy's Club.  He spent many years teaching and mentoring at the club.  He was a 5th degree Black Belt in Karate, kickboxing champion, boxing instructor, physical fitness expert and enjoyed archery.  He and his wife, Beverly,  spent many years enjoying their sailboat in and around Boston and Scituate harbor.  They built their house together in Scituate, spending many months turning it into their home.

Sully is survived by his beloved wife Beverly M. (Sunnerberg) Sullivan of Scituate.  They were a "team" and devoted to one another. His children, Lori Hurley and her husband Kevin of Halifax, Linda O'Donnell and her husband Bob of Halifax, Lynn Critch and her husband Norbert of Marshfield, Robert Sullivan and his wife Vicky of Rehoboth. Grandchildren, Kelli Myett, Kevin Smith, Joseph Smith, Michael Smith, Bobby O'Donnell, Janelle Critch, Robert Sullivan, Patrick Sullivan, Russell Sullivan, and Deidre Sullivan. And great-grandchildren Wyatt, Ellise, Georgia and Travis.

Sully was a man of great pride and respect.  He was a true gentleman – "His word was his bond" and you could count on that.  He was one of kind and will be truly missed.
