Robert H. Savola, MD, 81, of Cohasset, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2014, surrounded by family during his final weeks of battling congestive heart failure. Bob was born on May 30, 1933, in Weymouth, the son of Hugo and Velma Savola. He attended Weymouth High School, where he excelled in his studies and in sports. Bob was awarded a four year football scholarship to Harvard University where he graduated as a pre-med major in 1955. He moved on to Boston University Medical School and graduated after completing his residency in internal medicine. Bob enjoyed 40 years of his professional career dedicated to caring for his patients at South Shore Medical Center, Norwell. From September 1967-1969, Bob served as a Major in the United States Army, stationed in Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD and conducted classified medical studies at Edgewood Arsenal.

Bob made his long-time home on the South Shore, and raised his family in Hingham and Cohasset. All his life, Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors, including chasing deer and duck, canoeing, skiing, bird watching, or sitting on the beach. Other interests included tennis, photography, reading, as well as watching news and sports.

Bob was predeceased by his parents and his sister Lois Helvitz. He is survived by his beloved wife, LaNeve Savola of Cohasset, sister Shirley Freeman of Ipswich, his three daughters: Sandra Savola Anthoine of Falmouth, ME; Kristen Savola-Verghese and husband George of Charlottesville, VA; Ann Velma Fiore and husband Joseph of Sutton, MA; and five grandchildren: Mark, Connor and Katherine Anthoine; Alexa Verghese and Emma Fiore.  Bob is also survived by four step-children: Cynthia Yeomans of Chicago, IL; Jim Yeomans of Shrewsbury, MA; Joseph Yeomans and wife Alison of Thompson, CT; Nancy Yeomans of Ashland, MA.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday Dec. 20, 2014 at 11:30 am in South Shore Baptist Church, Hingham.
