Russell E. Williams, age 85, of Scituate, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at Linden Ponds. He was born on November 5, 1940, in Revere, Massachusetts, to Russell and Gertrude Sidebottom.
Russell graduated from Revere High School in 1959 and went on to attend Fisher Junior College in Boston. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1969. Following his military service, Russell built a long and respected career as a Master Pipefitter, working at Harvard University and Bethlehem Steel Shipyard. In 1983, he returned to service as a pipefitter for the U.S. Army and later worked for the Department of the Navy at the South Weymouth Naval Air Station until his retirement in 2000.
Never one to sit still, Russell continued working in retirement, driving for Boston Coach and working at Widow’s Walk Golf Course in Scituate, where he maintained greens and fairways—and happily retrieved countless lost golf balls along the way. He also became a trusted handyman in the community, generously helping older residents with repairs and projects around their homes.
Above all, Russell’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He rarely missed a sporting event, enthusiastically cheering on his children with his unmistakable booming voice urging them to “move faster.” One of the true highlights of his later years was spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. He treasured the many hours spent together, especially watching shows like North Woods Law and simply enjoying their company.
Russell was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy Williams; his sister, Lois Bopp; and his parents, Russell and Gertrude. He is survived by his son, Kevin Williams of Hingham, his wife Catherine, and their children, Hannah, Claire, and Brody; and by his daughter, Joanne O’Brien of Scituate, her husband Chuck O’Brien, and their children, Charlie, Lylah, and Jacob.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 5-8pm at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home-1 Summer Street, Cohasset.
