Ruth Mullen (Grabert)
May 9, 1926 – April 14, 2026
Ruth Elizabeth Mullen, a longtime resident of Scituate, MA, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, just weeks shy of her 100th birthday. Born in Boston on May 9, 1926, to the late William F. Sr. and Lilian Grabert, Ruth grew up in Jamaica Plain and remained a proud New Englander throughout her long and vibrant life.
After attending Simmons College, Ruth enjoyed a successful career in banking. Her life was defined far more by her curiosities and hobbies rather than by her resume. An enthusiastic traveler, Ruth delighted in exploring the United States and Europe. Closer to home, Ruth was a pillar of her community. She was a devoted member of Christ Lutheran Church in Scituate and spent many years as an active volunteer with the Scituate Historical Society. Her home was often a reflection of her passions: she was a consummate reader, a definitive animal lover, and a gifted quilter whose hand-stitched creations remain cherished keepsakes for her family.
In her later years, Ruth enjoyed the warm companionship of her friends at Lawson Green, but her greatest source of pride was always her family. She took immense joy in witnessing the education, careers, and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents and her brother, William F. Grabert Jr. She is survived by her four children: William (Leslie) of North Easton, Brian of Salisbury, Cynthia Roche of Scituate, and Steven (Lynda) of Bridgewater. She also leaves behind a lasting legacy in her nine grandchildren: Kim Bertram (Paul), Jonathan, Amy O’Shaughnessy (Brian), Kristen, David (Adrianna), Timothy Roche (Candace), Jaclyn Schattgen (Trevor), Andrew (Kristen), and Thomas; as well as eighteen great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours and interment at Forest Hills Cemetery will be private.
