Sybilla Freeman, a longtime Norwell resident dedicated to local history and nature died on September 10, 2026. She was 89.
Born in 1937, Mrs. Freeman was a woman of eclectic passions and deep convictions. Her life was defined by a profound appreciation for art and the natural world, balanced by a sharp intellect and unique personal pursuits, including a lifelong interest in history and martial arts.
In her later years, Mrs. Freeman dedicated much of her time to volunteering with the Norwell Historical Society, where she worked to preserve the town's heritage and share its stories with future generations. She was also a passionate advocate and member of the Second Amendment Sisters, reflecting her independent spirit.
She was the wife of the late Daniel A. Freeman, III, with whom she shared many years of marriage.
She leaves her two sons, Peter Freeman and his wife, Anne, of Quincy, and Robert Freeman and his wife, Kellie, of Marshfield; her brother, Pierre Flatau, of France; and four grandchildren, Beau, Nathan, Evan, and Charlotte.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026 from 4-7pm at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home-30 Central Street, NORWELL, MA 02061. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
