Obituary
Thomas M. Flaherty, age 79, of Falmouth, Mass., formerly of Norwell, passed away on May 29, 2014, surrounded by family at the home of his son Rob and daughter-in-law Debbie, in Mashpee.
Born on February 9, 1935, to the late Delia (McDonough) and Stephen Flaherty, Tom grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School, where he excelled at football, baseball and track. He earned an associate's degree from Northeastern University, and worked as an electrical engineer in Cambridge and Waltham. He kept up a lifelong dedication to sports through years spent coaching Little League in Norwell and running, and loved spending time outdoors. Predeceased by his beloved wife Noreen (Moriarty), daughter Deirdre, and brother Joseph, Tom is survived by his brothers Stephen of Quincy; his twin brother, John and his wife, Ann, of Scituate; Edward and his wife, Lois, of Mashpee; and Daniel and his wife, Ann, of Duxbury. He is also survived by his children Michael Flaherman and his wife, Valerie, of San Francisco; Sheila Flaherty-Jones and her husband, Gregory Jones, of Longmeadow; Robert Flaherty and his wife, Debbie, of Mashpee; and Stephanie Flaherty and her husband, Peter Follet, of Easthampton and many nieces and nephews. His legacy lives on in his twelve beloved grandchildren, Rachel, Maureen, Emma, Alex, Will, Elizabeth, Otis, Ryan, Rosemary, Henry, Andrew and Jack.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 9 am in St. Helen Church, 383 Washington Street, Norwell, MA. 02061. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Norwell Little League at Norwell Little League Sponsorship, P.
