IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas F
Lydon
August 31, 1935 – June 9, 2024
Thomas F. Lydon, of North Marshfield, a fixture in South Shore's restaurant scene, passed away peacefully on June 9th, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Newport, Rhode Island on August 31, 1935 to Dr. Francis Lydon and Lynette (Monteiro) Lydon.
After attending De La Salle Academy in Newport and Belmont Abbey in Belmont, North Carolina, Tom graduated from Georgetown University in 1957. Two weeks before graduation he met Janet Creagan, which was the start of a wonderful life together. Tom and Jan were married in 1958.
He was commissioned as an officer in the US Army Reserves and rose to the rank of captain before being honorably discharged in 1960. Tom began his career in New York City in the textile industry. In 1962 Tom and Jan moved to North Marshfield where they raised their family; eventually all worked together in the restaurant business. There's a good chance you were greeted by Tom's big smile at The Bell Buoy, The Barnside Tavern, The Alewife, Navona or The Barker Tavern.
Tom was an avid reader of mysteries and science fiction. He could get lost in a library or bookstore for hours and was the proud owner of multiple library cards. He loved to cook, was a huge fan of jazz and a connoisseur of great wines for good value.
Tom and Jan spent time on both coasts with family and loved being near the water. For many years, Tom ran in local road races and prided himself on his collection of old race tee shirts (that will never be retired).
When he said it was great to see you again, he meant it; his memory recall and great sense of humor provided and sustained countless laughs and stories, building a fitting legacy. Tom had the unique ability to identify and remember something personal about each of the people he met and the friends he made over the years.
Tom was a true gentleman who always left you feeling better about yourself. Most importantly, he loved his family and valued those special times together.
Tom was a man of faith and beloved husband of Jan. Loving father of Katie and Nick McCarty, Tom and Lisa Ann Lydon, and Brad Lydon who passed away in 2019. Devoted grandfather of Cabot, Carly and Caitlin Noyce, and Creagan, Cameron and Anya Lydon. Loving brother of Janet O'Sullivan and her late husband Joe. Tom is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
