Obituary

Thomas Murphy November 17, 1957 to September 27, 2024

Thomas Murphy passed away suddenly on Friday September 27, 2024 while on a canoe camping trip in Northern Maine. His nephew Cami visiting from Ireland and faithful dog Ruby were by his side, at one of the most beautiful campsites he had come across in all his years of travel as noted by Thomas himself.

Born November 17, 1957 in Dublin, Ireland to the late Thomas and Philomena (Eccles) Murphy. He is survived by his wife Debbie (Henvey) Murphy and his loving dog Ruby. In addition his mother in law Carol Henvey, sister in laws Cathy Henvey and her son Charlie; Denise Castro and her children Melissa, Emily and her husband Jon Marks, Will and fiancee Sarah; and Donna Henvey - as well as brother in laws Bob Considine, Chris Castro and Missy Parfumorse, and Franklin Gago. Predeceased by father in law William Henvey.

He is survived by family in Ireland - his sisters Anita Murphy Mcevoy, Emily Murphy, Helen Murphy, Jacqueline Murphy, Lynda Murphy and brothers Darren Murphy and Martin Murphy as well as 18 nieces and nephews - Cameron, Aaron, Evan, Jhodanna, Jeorgia, Jordan, Joshua, Jasmine, Jade, Chloe, Natasha, Hazel, Sean, Ashleigh, Megan, Lauren, Rachel, and Louise and 12 grand nieces and nephews. Thomas moved to the States in the 80s after spending time in Greece, and camping out and travelling through Europe on his motorbike. He spent time in DC and California before settling on the South Shore of Massachussetts.

He and Debbie eloped in a hot air balloon in vineyards of California in 1997. They shared a love of music, a good joke (taking the piss out of ya), and travel. They met in a blues bar in Quincy and went on to buy a fixer upper in Cohasset. Thomas spent years customizing the home for him and Debbie, every room and wall has his handiwork. He was a talented painter and craftsmen and could do just about anything well- just ask him, and he would humbly tell you. Motorcycles were another love of his, always had a few in the works. Thomas did his best to spread the bug for motorcycles to anyone he could - his brother in law Chris and nephew Will caught it.

Family was very important to Thomas, and he loved children, and served as a father figure to many of his nieces and nephew, even from afar. Debbie and Thomas were so generous to all their nieces and nephews with their time and trips. Many came across the pond to visit and work with Thomas over the years, and Emily got to visit Dublin and Will the Isle of Man races, as well as his in-laws Bill and Carol from the US with Thomas as their tour guide and the whole Murphy clan welcoming everyone with open arms. His nephew Charlie loved spending time with him, and was always giggling at the colorful language he spewed.

Thomas was always ready to help out friends and family however he could. He was well read, and his humor and Irish accent and that glint in his eye, allowed him to get away with more than most. The bar rooms and campfires just got a bit dimmer as Thomas had so much more knowledge, opinions, whit, and love to give - gone way to soon. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
