W. Dennis Moran, 85, of Scituate, MA, passed away on January 16, 2025, after a long illness.
Born on January 13, 1940, in Springfield, MA, Dennis was the son of the late Walter and Laura Moran. He grew up in Atlanta, GA, and Raleigh, NC, later finding his forever home in Scituate. He was a 1964 graduate of Union College where he studied civil engineering (Tau Beta Pi National Honorary Engineering Society) and later earned an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business (Phi Beta Kappa).
Dennis is survived by his devoted and cherished wife of 58 years, Kitty (Boulet) Moran, and two loving daughters Molly Ascrizzi of Quincy, and Julie Strehle (Andrew) of Hingham. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kitty Ascrizzi, Michelle Ascrizzi, Margaret Strehle and Ian Strehle. Dennis was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Cain (Moran) Brown, and beloved son-in-law, Vincent Ascrizzi, MD.
Dennis spent most of his professional career with the engineering firm Camp Dresser McKee (CDM), traveling the world to develop water infrastructure in Bangkok, Cairo, Singapore, Seoul and Manila. He later served as President of CDM International.
His happiest days were spent sailing Scherzo along the shores of New England with his family serving as dedicated crew, trying to win imaginary races against the unsuspecting sailboats nearby. Dennis crewed on long distance sailing races, including Marion to Bermuda and Marblehead to Halifax. He served as Commodore of the Blue Water Sailing Club, and also enjoyed behind-the-scenes regatta work such as safety inspections for the Marion to Bermuda race and chairing the racing program at the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club.
