Willem ("Pim") Visser, age 92, died peacefully at his home in Norwell, MA on Feb. 2, 2015. He was born in the Netherlands in 1922 and lived in Indonesia with his family from the ages of 3 to 11 before returning to Holland. Pim immigrated to the United States in 1945.
Pim was predeceased by his wife, Jeannet Visser, to whom he was happily married for 65 years. Pim will be greatly missed by his 3 children & their spouses: Marjorie and Michael Correia of Norfolk, MA, Carol Brigham of Coventry, CT, Robert Visser of Norwell, MA & Karen Visser of Pembroke, MA as well as by his 4 grandchildren and their spouses: Ken and Kristen Brigham, Jennifer & Matt Myshrall, Adam Correia & Cassandra Scarpino, and Eric Visser. He will also be missed by his 2 great-grandchildren: Griffin & Rowynn Myshrall. Additionally Pim will certainly be missed by his sister, Ans Koek, and other family and friends who live in the Netherlands.
During the Nazi occupation of Holland in WWII, Pim was active in the Resistance Movement and was imprisoned in solitary confinement by the Nazis at the age of 18.
Pim was employed in the international wool business in Boston for 26 years and rose to the position of Vice-President. In 1971 he and his wife established "The Steppingstone" which thrived as a custom drapery business until their retirement in 1987.
Pim was a highly active member of the Church Hill United Methodist Church for many years and also volunteered in the Norwell Food Pantry.
Pim had many interests including electronics, photography, and travel and he enjoyed classical and jazz music. He loved swimming and sailing in Little Sebago Lake, ME. where he spent his summer vacations with his family.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm on May 16, 2015 at the Church Hill United Methodist Church in Norwell and a reception will follow at the church fellowship hall. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church Hill United Methodist Church or the Norwell Food Pantry.
