William J. Cibere, Jr., 68, of Scituate, passed away at South Shore Hospital, on January 28, 2014, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer. William was the beloved husband of Lesley (Exford) Cibere and loving father of Allison and Matthew Cibere of Scituate and William Cibere, III of ND. He was the son of the late Gertrude (Haugh) and William Cibere of Norwalk, CT and brother of Andrew Cibere of CO. He was the beloved cousin of Mary Lou (Chariott) and her husband John Serravezza, Ann (Chariott) and her husband Rocco Fiorelli, Arnold Chariott and Anna Lea (Cibere) and husband William Seuch, of Norwalk, CT.
William was born in Norwalk, CT and graduated from St. Luke's School, New Canaan, CT, Class of 1963. At St. Luke's he played football and was Capt. of the hockey team. He also played for the semipro hockey team, the Norwalk Home Oilers. He graduated from Boston University, School of Education, Class of 1967. He taught in the Randolph Public Schools and coached junior varsity football for a number of years. As his children grew up, he loved watching his daughter's dance recitals and his boys play baseball, soccer and hockey. He enjoyed going out on the boat with his parents, especially trips to Block Island for a week of visiting with family. His favorite family vacation spot was Drake Island, ME., with the Butler family.
After retiring from teaching, Bill worked for Teamsters Local 82, did house painting and worked in his vegetable garden. He loved to cook, whether it was something on the grill or a special Hungarian recipe handed down from his dad and grandparents. Most of all he loved relaxing with family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 10 am in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate Harbor. Visiting hours Monday, Feb. 3 from 3-7 pm. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Bill may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute or the Scituate Animal Shelter.
