A. Littlefield Obituary

A. Stanley Littlefield, Esq. former District Attorney of Plymouth County

Feb 15, 1926 – Dec 19, 2018

Stan Littlefield of Scituate, formerly of Abington, passed away peacefully December 19 with his family in attendance. He was 92.

Stan was born in Denver, CO to Florence L. Martin and Benjamin D. Littlefield and was raised in New Bedford, MA. After graduation from New Bedford High School in 1944, Stan enrolled in active duty with the US Navy serving on the USS Charles R. Ware until his honorable discharge in 1946. Stan attended Brown University from 1947 to 1949 where he was a proud member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He left to attend Boston University School of Law where he graduated in 1952. He then married “Boo” Blease of Wethersfield, CT and they settled in Abington where they lived for more than 50 years.

After practicing as a trial attorney for 10 years, Stan practiced as a prosecutor in the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office for 13 years, serving as the District Attorney from 1973 – 1975.

Stan was very involved in public service, serving in Abington on the Finance Committee, Old Colony Planning Council, the Rotary Club and Jaycees. He was a Selectman in Abington for 18 years, serving as Chairman of the Board for eight of those years. He was also a member of the Rockland Junior Chamber of Commerce, State VP and Legal Counsel to the Massachusetts Junior Chamber of Commerce, Town Council to the Town of Avon and President of the Plymouth County Bar Association. He served on the Board of Directors for Abington Bank Corps and South Shore Hospital and was active in the United Church of Christ in Abington. The entirety of Stan’s public service was extensive, varied and too long to list.

Stan loved sports and all things Abington. He could frequently be spotted at Abington High School football and basketball games during his many years living there. He loved to golf and played often at the New Bedford Country Club and at the Halifax Country Club, at which he was a member. He loved to read. He loved to travel with Boo and his many friends. He especially enjoyed extended vacations in Nantucket on the Old North Wharf with his family every year.

Stan loved animals, especially his most recent and constant companion, his cat “Rascal”.

He leaves his three daughters, Jane Scherer of Wellfleet, Sarah Littlefield of Hingham, Polly Littlefield of Scituate and his grandson, Sam Scherer of Wellfleet. He was predeceased by his wife Boo, to whom he was married for 60 years.

Stan will be remembered at a private service in Nantucket. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, Animal Legal Defense Fund, 525 East Cotati Ave., Cotati, CA 94931 or at
