Anne Carroll Obituary

Anne M. (O’Brien) Carroll of Scituate passed away with family by her side on May 18, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Howard Paul Carroll (deceased). Born in Brighton, MA  on February 26, 1930, she was the daughter of James J. O’Brien and Sarah J. O’Brien. Anne was predeceased by her 3 brothers, James R. O’Brien, John (Jackie) S. O’Brien and William F. O’Brien.  The O’Briens became a Gold Star family after Jackie was killed in action on October 3, 1944.

She is survived by her children Paula M. (Carroll) Pozniak and husband Frank, Patrice A. Carroll, Pamela J. Carroll, grandchildren Paul F. Pozniak, Claire M. Pozniak, Grace A. Pozniak, great-grandchildren James R. and Whitney A. Pozniak as well as cherished nephews and nieces, and a treasured Godson.

She lived her early years in Boston, graduating from St. Columbkille High School and the Boston Business School. Paul and Anne settled in Scituate in 1954 where they began a family and made life-long friends who filled their days with laughter, adventure and kindness.  She was an active member and founding family of St. Frances X. Cabrini parish in Scituate where she taught CCD. After becoming a young widow, her love of God, family, and neighbor provided great strength and joy that sustained her.

Anne was a generous daughter, devoted mother, tremendously proud grandmother  and trusted, compassionate friend. The ocean, gardening and the Red Sox were sources of inspiration.  She loved reading, music, travel, hearing life stories, sharing laughter and Nina’s exercise class.

Anne’s caring extended into the community where she resided for 69 years.  She worked as a Secretary in the Scituate elementary schools, supporting children and their families.  She followed children’s progress and took delight in their academic accomplishments.  For many years, Anne enjoyed an active schedule in retirement.
