Anne J. (Putis) Downes

Anne J. (Putis) Downes, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the age of 101.

Beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Downes.   Loving mother of Carol –Anne and her husband Dr. Peter D. Kramers of Hanover,  Joanne and her husband Michael J. Reynolds of Scituate, and Denise (Mikey) and her husband Peter Faga also of Scituate, MA.  Cherished  grandmother to 6 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  Sister of the late Joanne Connors, Edward and Alfred Putis, she is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Anne was born in Stoneham, MA. daughter of the late Joseph and Eva (Zankauskas) Putis. 

Anne moved to Boston with her family in her late teens, graduating from “South Boston High School”.

Anne  later met “Tom”, they married in Boston in 1943 and started their family.  Anne loved dancing, traveling and “SHOPPING”!  She was an avid knitter, loved flower arranging, making wreaths and braiding rugs.  She loved designing and maintaining her home….She was a “ Fashionista” .

Anne and Tom moved to Cohasset ,MA. where they lived for many years…Anne worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston.  After their retirement they spent years traveling and wintering in Marco Island, Florida.  Married for 49 years, until Tom’s passing, Anne remained in Cohasset, spending her later years, visiting and enjoying her family.  She also volunteered for 20+ years at the Cohasset Consignment Shop, until she was 92.

Visiting hours following COVID guidelines will be held on Wednesday, April 28th, 2021 from 10-11:10 am in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer Street (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM, St. Anthony’s Church, Cohasset.  Interment to  follow at Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset, MA. Please RSVP to the visiting hours below and to the Mass via (link to follow). Covid guidelines of masks, social distancing, and limited capacities must be followed for the safety of all. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Anne’s memory to Beacon Hospice, 32 Resnik Road, Suite 3, Plymouth, MA  02360.
