Beth Ellen (Marsden) Gilman, 63, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on January 24, 2021 after bravely fighting a courageous three-year battle with Breast Cancer. Beth was born on September 6, 1957 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and was raised in Cohasset. She went on to raise her own family in Cohasset where she became a pillar of the Community.
Beth was the beloved wife of James (Jamie) Gilman of 35 years and the proud and adoring mother of Marie and Caty Gilman. Beth was a loving wife, mother, sister, friend and coach. She will be remembered for her quick inquisitive mind, wonderful sense of humor, larger than life personality, and her kind and loving spirit. Beth cherished her time sailing, skiing and reading, and she was an avid gardener. She enjoyed nothing more than gathering friends and family for a beautiful home cooked meal. Beth never missed any of her girls’ ski races, ballet recitals or field hockey games. She was a fixture on the sidelines, enthusiastically cheering with a cow bell in each hand. Beth’s passion for field hockey led her to creating the Cohasset Middle School Field Hockey Program 17 years ago.
Beth graduated from Boston College in 1979 with a Management degree and was also a member of the BC Field Hockey team.
Upon graduating, her professional career started at Digital Equipment Corporation where she rose to become one of the highest-ranking saleswomen in New England. After 14 years at Digital, she went on to work at Seagate Software and Dragon Software holding US Sales Manager positions. For the last 5 years, Beth worked for IBM Watson in the Healthcare division.
Beth is survived by her husband James (Jamie) Gilman, her two daughters Marie and Caty Gilman, her brother William (Billy) Marsden, sister-in-laws Valia and Mary Marsden and Cousin Les Fallon. Beth was predeceased by her Father William H. Marsden and her Mother Marie Fitzgerald and her beloved brother, Brian Marsden. She also leaves her adoring nephews, Brian Jr. and Trevor Marsden, and William, Max and Thomas Marsden.
