Charlene A. (Newcomb) Ketterer of Plymouth, formerly of Scituate, Ma. passed away on Monday, October 10th, 2022. Beloved and loving wife of John “Jack” F. Ketterer. Devoted and loving mother of Wendy Ketterer of Rockland, Robin A. Dummer and husband William of Scituate, J.Chris Ketterer and wife Maureen of Plymouth and Jay F. Ketterer of Onset. Loving daughter of the late Augustus Newcomb and the late Ruth E. Newcomb. Loving and cherished grandmother of Melissa A. Marshall, Tracie E. Scavongelli, Alyce N. Marshall Haldoupis, Kristen D. Sargent, Sean C. Ketterer, Corey A. Ketterer, Danielle Schneck, Jenna Bremis, Dylan Ketterer and great grandmother of Logan, Michael, Amara, Mikaya, Chase and Kaine.
Charlene grew up in North Quincy and graduated from North Quincy High School Class of 1951. She and her family spent time visiting their grandparents at their farmhouse in Scituate where they eventually settled and stayed for many years.
As a young girl, Charlene loved horseback riding, skating and the beach. During her high school years, she was a member of the Softball Team, Bowling Team, The Girls Club and Prom Committee. Charlene was known as “The Ideal Friend” to her classmates. Upon graduating, she worked for the Gates Department Store of Scituate in customer service, displaying, ordering store merchandise.
After High School, Charlene and Jack started dating and hit it off right away. They were married August 29, 1954 and Charlene’s family welcomed Jack with open arms. Jack was now married to a wonderful woman who had 4 brothers and 2 sisters which was very exciting to him, coming from a family with no siblings.
During her later years, Charlene played for the Scituate Women’s Softball League, the Scituate Harbor Bowling Leagues, she volunteered for town wide events and was an active participant as a Parishioner For Saint Mary’s of the Nativity Church in Scituate. Charlene enjoyed watching and cheering on her children and grandchildren as they participated in sports, gymnastics, music and dance. Charlene was an avid Boston sports fan and loved watching with her family. She even watched the game with us last Sunday, hanging in until her Pats won. Her hobbies included; knitting, reading, crafting, (more knitting and crocheting,) as well as decorating and cooking during the holidays for family and friends. Charlene was a caring and loving woman always willing to help her family, friends and individuals in need.
Family and Friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, October 23rd, from 4-7p.m. at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home 1 Summer St., Cohasset, Ma. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s of the Nativity Church 1 Kent St. Scituate Ma. on Monday October 24,at 10:00a.m. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Scituate. In lieu of flowers remembrances in Charlene’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org
