Charles H. Balkam, Sr., age 82, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2023 in the home he loved surrounded by the people he loved. Chuck and his wife were longtime residents of Marshfield for 45 years. Chuck is survived by his loving and devoted wife Ethelyn of 59 years, his son Charles H. Balkam, Jr. of Wareham, daughter Susan Lajoie of Hubbardston, son James Balkam and wife Beth of Pembroke and son Stephen Balkam and wife Sarah of Marshfield. Grandfather to Zachary, Alexandria, Emily, Nicole, Abigail and Thomas. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Balkam of Middleboro, along with many nieces and nephews.
Chuck was a graduate of North Quincy High School and later graduated from Bentley College in 1967. He was 30 year member of Konohassett Lodge A F & A M and Scottish Rite 32 degree. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Marshfield. He was the Assistant Controller for Howard Johnsons for 25 years and was the Comptroller at Burke Distributing for 29 years.
Visiting hours will be held at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home-1 Summer Street, Cohasset, MA on Monday February 27, 2023 from 5pm-8pm. Funeral to be held on Tuesday,February 28, 2023 at the First Congregational Church of Marshfield, at 11 am in Marshfield MA. Interment at Beechwood Cemetery, Cohasset, MA. Reception to follow at the Konohassett Lodge, 7 Brook Street Cohasset, MA.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First Congregational Church of Marshfield in memory of Charles Balkam and The American Diabetes Association.
