Corey C. Griffin

Corey Christopher Griffin of Scituate, passed away as a result of a tragic accident in Nantucket on August 16th, 2014 at the age of 27. The oldest of three children of Robert E. Griffin, Jr. and Cathleen A. Griffin of Scituate, he is also survived by his beloved brother Michael Patrick Griffin and sister Casey Mara Griffin. Corey was also the grandson of Frances Griffin and the late Robert Griffin of Scituate and Russell and Carol Bishop, also of Scituate. He also leaves his uncle and aunt Christopher and Wendy Griffin and their children Kelly, Sean and Danny of Hingham; his uncle Corey and aunt DeeDee Griffin and their children Courtney, Caroline, Willy and Charlie of Wellesley; his aunt and uncle Mary Bishop and David McCormick of Scituate; his aunt Patty and uncle Dean Hildreth and their children Katie, Craig and Jeffrey of Hingham; his aunt Peggy and uncle Michael Oar and their children Michael, Jr., Amanda and Christine of Scituate; and his uncle Russ and aunt Lori Bishop and their children Kaylee, Jake and Lexi of Scituate.

Corey was a proud graduate of Thayer Academy, the Taft School and Babson College, where he majored in entrepreneurship and finance. At each school, Corey was an accomplished varsity hockey player. His business career began at Bain Capital Ventures as an associate and, more recently, he co-founded RANE, an emerging company in New York City, where he served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives. Corey will be remembered for the love of his family and friends, the quality and quantity of his friendships and the limitless vigor with which he pursued life. His passion, spirit and love of his friends was known throughout the hockey world and beyond. After his competitive hockey days ended, Corey brought his passion to the outdoors and particularly to the ocean, where he led many fishing trips and searches for the best waves to surf on the South Shore. Corey’s boundless energy, spirit, ability to find something good in everybody, passionate support and leadership of many philanthropic causes, never-quit attitude and the broadest of smiles are his legacy.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate Corey’s life by gathering at St. Anthony’s Church, 10 Summer Street, Cohasset, Massachusetts on Wednesday, August 20th from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church in his honor on Thursday, August 21st at 11:00 AM.
