Donald Coulombe Obituary

Donald M. Coulombe of  Dorchester, passed on September 29, 2019, he was 87 years old.

Born 1932 in New Bedford, MA, Don was one of 18 siblings, of which he survived until his bout with cancer. He leaves his significant other Carol Nevins, and her family and Claire Coulombe, and sons Phil and Mike, both Florida, and also sons Steve and Don (Donnie) both of Massachusetts, and grandchildren Amanda, Jessica, Benjamin and Rebecca Coulombe, Phil and Emily Coulombe and great grandson Paul LeDuc, and many friends and relatives.

Donald, or Don as most called him unless something important was to be stated, or DONALD, all caps, if he was late getting ready, lol, grew up in New Bedford and among boxing with his brothers and beyond, was a tireless fisherman. New Bedford, Buzzards Bay, West Island and Nantucket sound were areas where the 16’ plywood grey 25hp Johnson would fill with barrels of flounder and scup, much to our learned long evenings cleaning fish until our wrinkled up hands couldn’t scale another scup can attest to. Later our immediate family’s boat was similar, with a 35hp, then a 85hp faster to the fish boat, and water skiing, and also camping for frequent 2 week long vacations.

Before all this, Donald was in the Korean war in the Army, moved from New Bedford to Norwood, MA where he continued his career and support of our family as a tool and die maker, then class A machinist, then machine designer after Northeastern University acquired skills, and lastly a hot stamping and machining business in the garage in Norwood, then Stoughton, as a retirement business.

Donald was first a family man, with my mom Claire Coulombe, both in providing for us and having fun with, and teaching us how to work on cars and build things, and with life’s adventures with society (how to handle bullying, etc, and my mom of course adjusting the lessons some.) He was a devoted spouse and enjoyed the Bruins and Patriot football games of late, just in time for the Belichick/Brady run, and many fun times with Carol Nevins in Dorchester with family and on cruises, time share visits, and just togetherness with Carol.

There will be a small celebration of life dinner for the immediate family only per Donald’s wishes.  There will be no wake, funeral or mass per Don’s wishes. He kept saying “enjoy me now and have a small celebration afterwards.”
