Donald Robbins Obituary

Donald G. Robbins, loving husband of Beverly Robbins, passed away at his home in Durham, New Hampshire on June 8, 2022. Don was born to the parents Kenneth and Gladys Robbins on May 4th 1934 in Boston Massachusetts. Don spent the majority of his adult life in Norwell where he and Beverly raised their 4 sons, Brad, Mark, Scott (pre-deceased) and David. Retirement locations included Humarock MA, Punta Gorda, FL, Wells ME, and Barrington/Durham, NH. While raising his family and working, Don always supported the community. He worked as a part time policeman for the town of Norwell. At the age of 40, he returned to military service from Army tank division to join the Naval Reserves with the Seabees where he earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Don retired from the Seabees on July 11, 1992 on the USS Constitution. During this time, he started as a volunteer firefighter in the town of Norwell. He studied for and earned his EMT certificate, upon completion he continued his work at NFD as an EMT. He ended his part time career at the Norwell Fire Department at the age of 65. After “Retirement” Don continued to work to help people by becoming involved with FEMA, assisting with various natural disaster cleanups throughout the US.

These accomplishments were achieved while he pursued a professional career path. Early in his life he was the Office Manager and Treasurer of Allied Resins. He later ran a successful remodeling business and finished his professional career as a Building Inspector/Commissioner in Cohasset, Hingham and retiring out of Milton.

In between all of this activity, he was a youth group leader and church bus driver with the UCC in Norwell and the Boy Scouts. He was active in 4-H, sealer of weights and measures for the town of Scituate, chairman of the board of directors for the Hingham Credit Union and a member of the South Eastern Builders Association.

Don had a love for the sea; at one point, after purchasing a boat he earned his Captain’s License. He was a member and eventually a Commander in the US Power Squadron.

Don is survived by his wife of 66 years Beverly M. Robbins. His sister Debbie Parker of Hudson, MA. Sister-in-law Kathi MacKinnon of Braintree, MA. His son Brad Robbins and his wife Diane, of Weymouth MA, son Mark Robbins and his wife Jeanne of Edgewood NM, David Robbins and his wife Tanya of Barrington, NH., Grandchildren Winona, Kevin, Dinah, Aron, Eric, Patrick and Alex, 2 great grandchildren on the way and many nieces and nephews

Services will be held on Monday, June 13th, 2022 at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home 30 Central Street, Norwell, MA 02061 Viewing 1:00-4:00, with a Service to begin at 4:00pm.
