Edward Gibbons Obituary

Edward F. Gibbons Jr., age 92, passed away on April 21, 2021, after a brief illness. Ed was born in Roslindale, to Edward and Mary Gibbons (McDonough), also of Roslindale. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marilyn A. Gibbons (Sweeney); 4 children and 6 grandchildren, Edward Gibbons of Cohasset, his wife Trisha and their children Brendan and Christian, Michael Gibbons of Scituate, and his wife Maryellen and their children Connor and Aidan, Paula Dinneen of Scituate and her husband Dave, and their children Elizabeth and David, and Elizabeth Gibbons of Scituate. He is also survived by his siblings, Richard Gibbons of Dedham, Mary Doody of Stoughton, Rita Gibbons of Boston, and Nancy Sias of California. Edward was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mary Gibbons and stepmother Rita Gibbons, as well as two sisters, Patsy Cabral and Florence Mallett. Edward graduated from Roslindale High School followed by 4 years serving his country in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, Ed traveled all over Europe before returning home to Boston and was a veteran of World War II. Ed joined the Boston Police Department as a patrolman and later became a Sergeant before becoming Rangemaster for the Boston Police shooting range located on Moon Island in Boston. Ed really enjoyed his years running the shooting range and then retired from the force after a 43-year career. When Ed wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his family and taking family trips to St. Pete's Beach, Fla., or just riding around Scituate and visiting Scituate lighthouse. Ed was a devout Catholic, he read his prayerbook everyday and we are comforted that he will be accepted with open arms into heaven to look over his family and friends. Visitation, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, from 9-10 a.m. in the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer Street, Cohasset. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated following the visitation on Tuesday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 2 Summer Street, Cohasset. Interment with military honors will be held privately in Cudworth Cemetery on Cudworth Road in Scituate.
