Elizabeth H. (Heckendorn) O'Neil

Elizabeth H. (Heckendorn) O’Neil, age 100, of Scituate, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2022. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Frederick O’Neil and the loving mother of Linda (Holds) Evers of Scituate. She is survived by her cousins, Joe Lemere of Hudson, MA., Larry and Esther Dentz of NJ, and Dr. Marilyn Hart of NJ as well as many second and third cousins. She also leaves many close friends in the Scituate and Phillipston, MA areas.

Betty worked as a model in New York City for American Deb. During World War II, she and her mother became radio spokeswomen for the sale of US War Bonds.  In 1968, Betty and her husband, Fred bought and operated Scituate Harbor Marina. Betty continued the Marina for many years after Fred’s death, until she sold it to her dear friend and former employee, Dobber Reynolds. She loved nature and animals, and spent a great deal of time outdoors golfing. She was very creative enjoying knitting and embroidery.

A private graveside service will be held at Cudworth Cemetery, Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Betty may be made to the Norwell VNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA. 02061.
