Holly Hill Obituary

There is a new light in the sky tonight. Holly Hanson Hill, born 1941, passed from this world to the next on December 21, 2023.

Holly began her life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the loving daughter of James Edward and Emily Fitzroy Hanson.  She graduated Mary Baldwin College, and later moved to Boston.  Working at Blue Cross, she met the man who would become the love of her life, her husband Steve, whom she married in 1965.  Over their 58-year marriage, they shared many passions… a love for animals, a fondness and innate ability for gardening and the coast of Maine. Life taught them that love does not consist of gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction.

They purchased their first home in Pembroke, Massachusetts and eventually settled in the small quaint town of Cohasset, Massachusetts, which became their home.  During this time, she gave birth to her pride and joy, sons J. Stephan Jr., Adam E. and Noah M.  Having no daughters of her own, Holly had a special fondness and love for her daughters-in-law, Jacqueline and Ann-Marie.  They in turn rewarded her with 7 grandchildren: Delaney, Nate, Ben, Jack, Henry, Thomas and Nick.

After her time at Blue Cross, Holly developed a passion for teaching and spent 7 years as a Nursey School teacher in Hingham, Massachusetts.  Her kindness and love for animals was on full display, frequently bringing home the classroom guinea pigs so they would not have to spend the weekend alone.  She finished her professional career in the Customer Success division at Talbots in Hingham, Massachusetts, a department she eventually managed. Her light shone on many!

Holly was an avid reader and for 44 years rarely missed a night of her monthly Book Club.  They discussed the books in depth, but the club was merely a vehicle for lifelong friends to share about their families, children, interests and struggles.

Holly spent many hours in the garden, where she could do amazing things.  She found great joy in walking through her many gardens or simply sitting peacefully and having a cup of tea.

Holly loved the life she lived.  She was elegant, graceful and most of all a great listener.  Never wanting to be the center of attention, she had a passion for supporting what other’s loved and would go out of her way to learn about topics that were interesting to her children and grandchildren. The mere mention of their names caused her to glow… wait, I see a flicker below the moon. She is watching.

In lieu of flowers, the Hill family would be grateful if you would consider a donation to the ASPCA or the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
