J. Scott McClean Obituary

Jonathan "Scott" McClean of Norwell passed away peacefully on July 5th after a brief but intense battle with pancreatic cancer.  Scott was born on February 26, 1953 to J. Donald and Ann S (Silva) McClean.  He grew up in Quincy and graduated from Newman Prep in Boston and then from Dean Junior College.  He worked for many years for McClean Steel Co. in Quincy before starting his own company, JSM Custom Engineered Products, first in Plymouth and then in Hanson, MA, selling custom aluminum extrusions for the past 25 years.

Scott was a friend to all and was known to be very generous with family, friends, and acquaintances. He had a good sense of humor, always had a story to tell (they were sometimes hard to follow), and he could strike up a conversation with anyone and could always make the most arbitrary connections between people. He and his smile will be sorely missed by all who have known him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jacky, and their three sons, Douglas (wife Kelly) of Weymouth, Kevin (wife Aleena) of Ashland, and Andrew (girlfriend Lyndsay French) of S. Portland, ME.  He is also survived by his three beautiful grandchildren, Kayley Madeira and Connor and Harper McClean, all of Weymouth, and by his sister Kathleen of Kronberg, Germany and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother Marc.

Scott had many golfing trips in his earlier years,  and he thoroughly enjoyed boating.  He and his family loved to travel and have spent every summer at their cottage in Denmark, ME.  In recent years, he and Jacky spent a month or more every winter in Key Colony Beach, FL.  Some of the places the family visited included Mt. Desert Island in Maine, Alaska, Australia and New Zealand, Bermuda, Aruba, St. Thomas. The British Virgin Islands, and many ski trips to New Hampshire, Maine, Colorado, Utah, and Montana.

Friends and family are invited to attend a wake at McNamara Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St., Norwell from 5-8 pm on Thursday, August 5th.  A celebration of his life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 83 Sea St., N. Weymouth (Bicknell Square, corner of Rt. 3A and Sea St.) on Friday, August 6th at 10:30 am.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, The American Stroke Association, or Autism Speaks.

Due to the capacity of the church and space, please consider wearing or bringing a mask for the safety of all.
