James Watson Obituary

James L. Watson, 78, of Hingham died suddenly on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. Jim was the son of the late Herbert L. and Josephine Watson. Jim is survived by his daughter Sarah and her husband Edmund Burke, Jr. (Ted) of Quincy, his grandsons, James (Jake) and Owen Burke, and his daughter Tanya and her husband Scott Olsen of Oregon. He is also brother to Peter and wife Christa Watson of California, Elizabeth Watson of Maine, Joan Davis of Halifax, Nancy Weidenbach of Cohasset, Teresa Walker of Plympton, Robert and wife Carol Watson of North Carolina, William and wife Christine Watson of Kingston, the late Steven Watson of California, and the late Thomas Watson and his surviving wife Liz of Scituate. Jim is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

 

Jim grew up in Scituate, graduated from Scituate High School and attended UMass Amherst. He was a computer programmer for Howard Johnsons/Ground Round during the 80’s and was co-owner of Boston Hand Print, Inc. with his former partner Penelope Markowicz. In his later years he spent time as a contract painter and caring for his grandchildren.

 

He enjoyed reading and collecting books, photography, bowling, and being involved in politics as a member of the Hingham Democratic Town Committee. He was also a dedicated apiarist, the founder of Coastal River Honey, a member of the Plymouth County Bee Association and loved helping people in the community raise bees.

 

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Sunday March 20, 2022 at The C Note, 159 Nantasket Ave. in Hull. Visiting hours will be from 2-4pm with a remembrance of life following at 4pm.

 

Charitable donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Plymouth County Bee Association or 350.org.
