Jane R (Reardon) Russell

January 19, 1947 ~ August 20, 2023 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Obituary

Jane Reardon Russell, of Cohasset, died peacefully at the Pat Roche Hospice House after an almost 11-year-long battle with ovarian cancer on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the age of 76.

Jane was born in Newton, MA on January 19th, 1947, the daughter of the late Norbert V. and Mary (Groden) Reardon. She was the 4th of 6 children. They moved from Newton to Cohasset when she was 8, where she spent the next 68 years of her life. She graduated from Cohasset High School in 1964 and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Boston State College.

Jane is survived by the love of her life, Michael A. Russell Sr. who she met her senior year of Cohasset High School on the school bus and they were married in August of 1970. She is survived by her children, Amy Russell Farber and her husband, Adam Farber of Scituate, MA, and Michael A. Russell Jr. of Corte Madera, CA. In addition, she is survived by 5 grandchildren; Max, Sam & Ollie Farber of Scituate, MA, and Rusty and Kylie Russell of Corte Madera, CA.

She leaves her brother Norbert V. Reardon of Cohasset and sister, Elizabeth (Betsy) R. Good of Cohasset. She was also the sister of the late Susan R. Chisholm, the late Lt. Dennis J. Reardon, USMC, and the late Mark A. Reardon as well as countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jane was the 2-time captain of her high school varsity basketball team (elected captain as a junior as well as her senior year) and the captain of the varsity tennis team. After college, she went on to teach kindergarten at the Joseph Osgood School in Cohasset up until the birth of her children. Jane then went back to teaching special education at the Deer Hill School when her children were in their middle school years.

She had an impeccable eye for art and design and was an accomplished painter. She loved to sail and especially loved the weekends when she was invited to crew on her neighbor’s 210 sailboat, the Pied Piper. She was an avid reader and gardener, a weapon on the tennis court, a great golfer, and unbeatable at ping pong. She loved to entertain and baked a mean blueberry pie. She absolutely loved to travel and was lucky enough to explore so many different countries and continents, but she loved Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard most of all.

Jane was a member of the Cohasset Yacht Club, Cohasset Golf Club, and Cohasset Garden Club. She was the founding member of the Knit Pickers (knitting and needlepoint group) and a former member of the Junior League of Boston. She was a brownie troop leader and a member of many organizations and committees at her children’s schools. She adored her 5 grandchildren and loved spending time with them cooking, baking, doing art projects or just sitting around and telling stories whenever possible. She was the best grandmother and will be sorely missed by many.
