Jeanette Simmons Obituary

Jeanette Elizabeth Simmons of Norwell entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 10, 2022.

A lifetime area resident, Jeanette was born on August 31, 1933 in Stoneham, Massachusetts.  She was raised in East Braintree and was the devoted daughter of Fredrick and Caroline Fahey.

Mrs. Simmons was a 1951 graduate of Braintree High School.

After graduating from Braintree High School, she was employed as an administrative assistant with Braintree Schools and Granite City Electric.  Jeanette went on to pursue her love of travel by becoming a flight attendant with American Airlines.  After raising her children, she was employed with the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association as an office support administrator until her retirement.    

In 1959 she met and married, her loving husband of fifty -five years, Robert Simmons.  They started their family in Brockton and then moved to Norwell in 1970. 

Jeanette enjoyed raising her four children, caring for numerous pets, music, gardening, travel, reading, storytelling and spending time with family on Cape Cod.   

She was a dedicated volunteer at Brockton Hospital for many years as a patient representative. Jeanette also provided musical entertainment to patients in hospitals and nursing homes. She was a member of Sam Barece’s Barber Shop Musical Group and The Memory Lane Singers. 

Jeanette began her lifelong spiritual commitment in her youth at the Union Congregational Church, East Braintree.  When starting her family, she joined First Parish Congregational Christ, Brockton were she was a member of the En Ami Club.  Jeanette later became a member of the United Church of Christ, Norwell where she was a member of Women’s Fellowship , The Birthday Girls and The Knitters clubs. Jeanette was also an active member of the King’s Daughter’s organization.  These women’s and community service organizations were such a significant and cherished part of her life. 

Jeanette is survived by her children, Robert Simmons, Jr. and his wife, Pamela of Marblehead, MA, Holly Simmons-Foley and her husband, Paul of Fairfield, CT, David Simmons and his wife, MaryBeth of Bridgewater, MA and Suzanne Simmons of Norwell, MA.

Mrs. Simmons also leaves five grandchildren, Michael Simmons, Andrew Simmons, Lindsay Simmons, Matthew Simmons and Katherine Foley. 

Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday, April 19th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McNamara – Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central Street, Norwell. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 20th at 10:00 AM at the United Church Of Christ, 460 Main Street, Norwell.

Burial services will follow the funeral services at Washington Street Cemetery, Norwell.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jeanette’s name to any animal rights organization of your choice.
