Jeanne McAuliffe, 81
Jeanne M. McAuliffe of Cohasset passed away peacefully at the age of 81, surrounded by family and loved ones on October 17, 2021. She was born on September 19, 1940 to Kenneth and Shirley Laidlaw. Jeanne was raised and proudly grew up in Weymouth. She went on to graduate from Shattuck Nursing School which led to her 35 year career as an LPN at South Shore Hospital. All the while sharing her life in bliss with her true love, the late William McAuliffe. The two created a wonderful family including three children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
In her younger years, Jeanne loved to bowl and would never forget to mention the time that she bowled a perfect game. Playing cards with her group of best friends that became known as “the golden girls” was one of her favorite pastimes. When not being such a competitive card player with her friends, Jeanne thoroughly enjoyed playing games with her family during their weekly game nights. As a true lover of the sun, Jeanne never hesitated to travel coast to coast, chasing sunshine and good times with her friends in Florida and California. That being said there was no place she would rather be than relaxing in her favorite lawn chair in the backyard overlooking Cohasset harbor. At the end of the day you could always find Jeanne sitting in her reclining chair reading a novel, knitting, or crocheting her next great work of love.
All throughout her life. Jeanne performed countless acts of selflessness and generosity. There wasn't a moment that passed by without Jeanne thinking about how she could help someone else. Whether it be volunteering her time and services, passing on sage advice, having a shoulder to cry on, or simply being present with her contagious smile. She was always there when you needed her. Jeanne was loved by everyone who had the privilege of meeting her and she will truly be missed.
Jeanne has joined her late husband William McAuliffe, and son William McAuliffe Jr. She is survived by her two daughters; Kelli Dockendorff and significant other Steve Cohen, and Jennifer Chatterton and husband Troy Chatterton; her eight grandchildren; Joshua, Jacob, Jared, and Shane McAuliffe, David Dockendorff, Kayla Gorman, Will and Michael Chatterton and one great-grandchild Leddi Dockendorff.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday October 30th at 11am at St. Anthony's followed by a celebration of life at the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the South Shore.
