On Monday, June 20th, 2022, Joan St. John, widow and loving mother of 4 children, passed away at the age of 86 after declining health problems.
Joan was born October 20th, 1935 in Somerville Massachusetts to Daniel J. and Julia E. Flynn. She grew up in Somerville and spent summers at the family's beloved beach house on the bay at Hampton Circle in Hull. She graduated from Matignon High School in Cambridge and then from the Chandler Secretarial School in Boston.
In 1956 she married Paul St. John after a chance encounter on Nantasket Beach. They settled in Cohasset and raised a family at Joan's cherished "Gull Cottage" in the Cove. She lived quietly but was active in the community. Joan was Assistant Town Clerk for many years, volunteered at the Historical Society, Community Center and donated to many worthy causes. She didn't have a whole lot of time for hobbies but did enjoy her time on Cohasset Harbor, walks up to the Bellarmine, sitting on the porch at the yacht club and bringing the kids to Sandy Beach. She was also a jazz enthusiast never giving up her love of singers such as Tony Bennet and Ella Fitzgerald.
She had an extremely dry sense of humor and could always spin even the most difficult times into a chuckle. Joan leaves behind four children; Brian, Brendan, Mark and Martin along with many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Paul and two children, Greg and Julie.
A memorial funeral mass will be celebrated July 6th at 10am at St. Anthony's in Cohasset. Interment will be private.
