John Casimir Slupski, Jr.

 John (“Pop”) Slupski Jr., loving husband, father and grandfather of two beloved granddaughters, passed away on April 5, 2023 at the age of 84. 

John was born on January 15, 1940 to John Slupski Sr. and Theresa LaVita in Brooklyn, NY but lived most of his life in Norwell, MA.  He married Barbara Ann Lyons of Milwaukee, WI, his beloved wife of over 40 years and was the proud father of one son, John Slupski III and his wife Robyn.  He had two grandchildren, Cassandra (Cassie) and Alexandra (Alexa), whom he and Barbara adored and doted on. 

He received his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in electrical engineering and worked for almost 50 years as an engineer and later a computer programmer.  While at IBM, he was involved in the Apollo moon project and later started his own software consulting business where he was heavily involved in the development of tax return electronic filing for the IRS. 

John was known by all as having a wonderful sense of humor, an infectious laugh and was a great storyteller.  He loved travel with his wife and was a long-time ham radio enthusiast.  He also loved the ocean - he was at his happiest when he was boating or exploring the islands of Boston Harbor with his family and good friends, or just walking along the seaside and enjoying a nice meal.  He was a loyal friend to those who were close to him and to his extended family, never hesitating to help them when they were in need.

John was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and his brother-in-law Charlie.  He is survived by his son John and daughter-in-law Robyn, two granddaughters Cassie and Alexa, his sister Janice Osborne and her partner Ron Weise, his sister-in-law Bonnie Meyn and her husband Chick Meyn as well as several close cousins and six nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions in John’s name to his favorite charity, the Nature Conservancy.
