Sadly, 23-year-old Joseph Edward Benting of Plymouth, Massachusetts, formerly of Pembroke, Massachusetts, lost his life in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
Joe was a graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy, class of 2022, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in International Maritime Business. Growing up in Pembroke, Joe participated in various youth athletic programs in which he continued throughout high school & college. While in college Joes love of hockey showed in his participation of club hockey. As a senior in high school, Joe followed in his brother's footsteps, completing an internship with the Norwell Police Department.
Having recently become a referee for youth and men's league hockey, Joe had the privilege of being a ref at his younger brother and oldest nephews’ games. Joe always lit up any room he walked into with his energy and happiness, which was displayed with his singing and dancing performances. "Truly", he enjoyed entertaining his closest friends and family. He loved spending time outdoors, especially on skis, either on the water in the summer or on the slopes in the winter. Joe lived life to the fullest, with the kind of confidence that most people wish they possessed.
Joe was not only the life of the party, but also the life of the family. There was nothing he cared more about than his brothers. Joe's niece and nephews were everything to him, and it was evident in every interaction he had with them. He spent countless hours playing knee hockey with his nephews and giving his niece life advice.
In addition to his parents, Laura (Sheehan) and Kenneth Benting, he leaves behind his three brothers, James and wife Rebecca Benting, Robert and wife Michaela Benting, and William Benting. He also leaves behind his niece, Nevaeh and nephews, Trevyn, Kaizyk, and Cooper Benting; his grandparents Linda (Rauch) and Robert Benting, Judith (Vachon) and James Sheehan, and a large extended family and friends. He was the younger brother of the late, Matt Benting, who passed unexpectedly due to a cardiac event in 2016.
Visiting hours will be held at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St, Cohasset, MA 02025 on Monday, October 30th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.
