Kevin Michael Gallagher, 35, passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2021 in San Francisco.
Kevin is survived by his parents, Robert and Gail (Cassidy) Gallagher of Norwell; his brother Sean Gallagher and his wife Sarah of Medford, and sister Jennifer Eustance and her husband Christopher of Hingham. He also leaves behind his nephews Liam, Lochlan, Connor, and Owen, and a loving extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Raised in Norwell, MA, Kevin was a privacy activist and advocate respected worldwide for his technology expertise. Kevin earned a BA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and won the English Department’s 2012 Sanderson Prize for Best Essay. He moved to California to work for the Freedom of the Press Foundation, and later for various Silicon Valley companies. Kevin was a musician and writer who dedicated his career and energy to the cause of digital rights.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 from 8:30-9:30 am in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central Street (off Rt 123, near state police barracks), Norwell Center, MA. 02061, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Helen Church, 383 Washington Street (Rt 53), Norwell.
