Laurel (Laidlaw) Shaw

Laurel M. (Laidlaw) Shaw, age 70, of Pembroke, passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2023, after a prolonged battle with Dementia. Born in Weymouth on March 26, 1953, she was the youngest daughter of Shirley (Cripps) Laidlaw and Kenneth Laidlaw.

Laurel spent the first few years of her life in Weymouth before the family moved to the Beechwood neighborhood of Cohasset. She graduated from Cohasset High School in 1970 before attending MassArt College in Boston. Laurel’s professional career spanned the gamut from singer to nanny to salesperson, spreading love and laughter to all she encountered with her outgoing personality. Known to strike up conversation with complete strangers as if they were lifelong friends, or spontaneously break into song at any given moment, her spunk and cheerfulness will be well remembered.

Laurel is survived by her husband of 41 years, Malcolm Shaw of Pembroke, son Kevin Shaw, daughter-in-law Rachel (Miranda) Shaw, and granddaughter Alexandra Shaw of Plympton, son Louis Shaw of Pembroke, brother Kenneth Laidlaw of Abington, brother Fred Laidlaw of Cohasset, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her sister Jeanne (Laidlaw) McAuliffe of Cohasset, and brother William Laidlaw of Cohasset.

A memorial service will be held in Laurel’s honor on Saturday, April 29th at 10:00AM at the Second Congregational Church located at 43 Highland Avenue in Cohasset. A burial at the Cohasset Central Cemetery will take place immediately after the service, followed by a gathering of friends and family back at Second Congregational.
