Linda Maynard Obituary

Linda Lee Maynard (1949-2021) of East Bridgewater died peacefully on January 5th. Born on March 29, 1949, she was raised in Marshfield MA. After high school Linda’s family moved to Cohasset where she joined them after graduating from Barrington College in RI. Linda was first and foremost a loving daughter and sister, as well as a caring and supportive aunt and great aunt. Her life was spent playing and teaching sports and watching her favorite New England teams kick butt. In her senior years at Marshfield High School and again at Barrington she won awards for “most athletic”.

A teacher at Bourne High School and then for 34 years at Silver Lake, she loved her job and the students she worked with. Her colleagues remember her as being an honest person, dedicated and kind hearted. Though she had no children of her own, she had thousands of “her kids” from her years of teaching PE. Wherever she went, she would recognize students she had from years ago and was always interested to hear about their successes in life. Linda was often seen around Cohasset as she took care of her parents in their later years.  She made sure everyone in the family was supplied with sports equipment and local team clothing and taught the younger kids to swim and play ball. Silver Lake and Patriots jerseys are proudly worn by relatives in ME, OR, UT and CA.

Many years ago, she added and maintained a swimming pool at the family homestead on Pond Hill that was enjoyed for generations by nieces, nephews and their friends. Whenever and whatever the family celebrated, Linda was always there cheering everyone on and providing her famous Greek salad and cakes. A music lover from the start, she even took her little brother Hermon to Woodstock in her 66 Mustang. She was one of a kind and greatly loved by all who knew her.

LInda was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Barbara and Hermon Maynard of Cohasset and her companion, Kris Stevens. She is survived by her devoted sister Susan Maynard Denoncourt of Westbrook ME and brothers, Hermon Maynard (Pat McCarthy) of Jaffrey NH, Steven Maynard (Kim Salvador)) of Carver and Bruce Maynard (Katrina Swanson) of Hull. Linda had ten nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews. They brought her great joy and they were all crazy about her.

A small service will be held at McNamara Funeral Home in Cohasset on Wednesday, January 13th at 1 PM with burial to follow at Woodside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rosie’s Place or to any local animal shelter, as Linda and Kris had adopted and cared for many dogs over the years. And if you can, take your kids out for a game of catch or to a ball game and then to JJ’s for ice cream after. Linda always said sports helped kids to “stay out of trouble” and that’s a good thing.
