Mary Ellen (Igoe) Mooney, of Fort Lauderdale, FL. died, at the age of 78, on May 7, 2021. Born in Boston, on June 30th, and raised in West Roxbury, she was the second child of the late John P. and Catherine Dorothy (Smith) Igoe. Mary Ellen was a 1960 graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School and a 1962 graduate of Catherine Laboure School of Nursing. 59 years ago, Mary Ellen married the love of her life James J Mooney of Roslindale and together they raised their family in Scituate. The cornerstones of Mary Ellen’s life were her family and her friends. Her interests included golfing, boating, time on the beach and spending as much time with her family. A longtime member of Hatherly Country Club, Coral Ridge Country Club and Coral Ridge Yacht Club.
Mary Ellen is survived by her cherished husband Jim, her children, Mariellen O’Hara of Fairfield, CT, Jane Reynolds of Medway, MA, James (Jim) J. Mooney III of Hull, MA, Doreen Mason and her husband Charles (Chuck) of Kingston, MA, Heather Bastardi and her husband Matt of Hingham and son-in-law Brian Willer of Fairfield, CT. Adored grandchildren, Craig Reynolds, Jared Reynolds, Maribeth Mason, Jim Mooney IV, Victoria Reynolds, Evan O’Hara, Andrew Mason, Justin Mooney, Christine Mason, Elizabeth Reynolds, Maggie Willer, Caroline Bastardi, Jack Willer, Matthew Bastardi Jr., Kathryn Mooney, Elizabeth Bastardi and Conor Willer. Also survived by her loving sister Dorri Li of Independence, MO, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her daughter Kristin Mooney Willer, her sister Joan Heywood and her sister Catherine Harrison.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on May 12, 2021 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer Street, Cohasset. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am on May 12, 2021 at St. Anthony’s, 10 Summer St., Cohasset, followed by a private burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Scituate.
