Michael Hoyt Obituary

Michael Foster Hoyt, age 56, of Norwell and Chatham, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2020. Loving son of the late Livingston B. and Margery (Foster) Hoyt, Michael was the beloved husband of Jeannine C. (Son) and the adoring father of Benjamin F., William H., and Alison B. Hoyt all of Norwell. He was the loving brother of Donna Gibson (Charles) of Wellesley, Julia Davis (Richard) of Wellesley and Randall Hoyt (Holly) of Marstons Mills. Michael is also survived by many adoring nieces, nephews, and his beloved Portuguese Waterdogs, Luna and Reese.

A graduate of St. Lawrence University, Michael obtained his MBA from Suffolk University and went on to have a successful career as portfolio manager for prestigious firms such as Boston Private Bank, Cape Cod Bank & Trust, and most recently Wilmington Trust. Michael had an abounding passion for the ocean and loved spending time with family boating and fishing, especially on the waters off Chatham.

Michael’s perfect balance of professionalism and kind hearted friendly demeanor made him a truly special man.  Michael touched so many peoples’ lives; he had a magic, a duende that naturally made everyone in his presence, from the oldest to the youngest, feel most important.  His consistent positive presence was infectious. One of Michael’s compliments is that he was everyone’s favorite dad/uncle/friend because of his sincerity, positivity, tolerance for mischief and appreciation of what mattered most to him-time together.  Michael’s passion and his love for his time spent with family and friends on “The Point” in Chatham was rooted in his deep appreciation for the beauty of this special place and the surrounding waters.  Nothing made Michael more happy than to pass on his knowledge and respect for the ocean to his children and with those closest to him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date this Spring for friends and family. Private family services have been held.
