Michael W Hurley

Michael W. Hurley, formerly of Scituate, MA passed away peacefully on January 24, 2023.

Beloved husband of over 50 years to the late Judith (Daley) Hurley, Michael was born on May 14, 1938 in Boston to John Hurley and Dorothy (Tormey) Hurley and was raised in South Boston and Dorchester. He was a graduate of Cardinal Farley Military Academy and Fairfield University and went on teach history and social studies for nearly forty years with the Quincy Public Schools. The majority of his tenure was proudly served at North Quincy High School, were he served as department chair, oversaw student government and partnered with graduate schools to help train new teachers who shared his passion for history.

Quick with a smile and a warm greeting, Michael was a friend to many and was particularly proud to serve as friend and Trustee at the Scituate Public Library.

Michael is survived by his children Michael W. Hurley Jr. and wife Nicole of Braintree, Thomas J. Hurley and wife Alexis of Cohasset, Tricia Cheverie and husband John of Hanover, and Matthew C. Hurley and wife Jocelyn of Hanson; and grandchildren Kerry Hurley, Caitlin Hurley, Jack Cheverie and Julia Cheverie. He is also pre-deceased by his siblings John C. Hurley, Catherine Molloy, and Gordon McLean.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, January 30 between 3:00-7:00 pm at the McNamara Sparrell Funeral Home at 1 Summer Street Cohasset. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Anthony’s Cohasset on Tuesday, January 31 at 11:00 am and interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Scituate.
