Patricia “Pat” Ann (Bradford) Henderson, formerly of Hanover, passed away peacefully Friday June 30, 2023 with the love of her life John Henderson Sr. by her bedside. She had just celebrated her 84th birthday and 65 years of marriage this past winter.
Patricia was born in Newburyport, MA on June 19, 1939 to the late Richard and Ida (Knight) Bradford. The family moved to Hanover where they became active members of the First Congregational Church and Hanover Grange. She was proud to be a descendant of Gov. William Bradford. Patricia graduated from Hanover High School in 1957. Not long after graduation she and John married on December 22, 1957. They started their family the following summer when their first of seven children was born. Over the years they resided in several south shore towns including Rockland, Abington, Hanover, Scituate, and Norwell (growing their family in each home) before moving to Orlando for a short time. They returned to Hanover in 1970 where their last child was born and the family set their final roots to grow together.
Patricia was always very busy beyond raising her children with John. Over the years she drove a school bus and waitressed in Norwell, had top sales as a Dutchmaid hostess, caned and rushed furniture at Henderson’s Woodwork & Repair, was an administrative & medical assistant and office manager & legal assistant in Scituate, and was a seasonal cashier in the Hanover Mall.
Patricia was active in many other areas as well. At the First Congregational Church she served as clerk for 20 years as well as many other volunteer committees. She was a notary public, Plymouth County honorary deputy sheriff, active member of the Norwell Grange for 60 years, and a member of the Scituate Rotary where she was awarded the Service Above Self award. She spent a lot of time helping out with youth programs like scouts, Bible school, or teens in need. Many teens were welcomed into the Henderson home and family more than a few times, including two “daughters” (Bonnie & Oksana) that are still a part of the family today.
Patricia was especially talented at so many things; sewing, cake decorating, knitting, tri-chem liquid embroidery, canning, gardening, scrapbooking, and folding clothes. She loved camping with all of the children, grandchildren, and of course John. She also loved dancing with John.
Patricia and John moved to Scituate in 1993 and then retired to Live Oak, Florida.
Patricia is survived by her husband John, and siblings Phyllis McGlone and Robert Bradford. Her son John Jr., and her daughters Donna Henderson, Jennie Rachauskas, Debra Bunszel, and Barbara Devine.
Her granddaughters Jessica, Tristan, Brianna, Allison, Nicole, Samantha and Erin. Her grandsons Benjamin, John, Mark Jr., Kurt, Brendan, Sean, and Logan. Great grandchildren Michael, Keegan, Isabelle, John, Olivia, Ramona, Paiton, Vanessa, Jocelyn, Tiana, Jaxson, Travis, Cole, Layla, and Maya. She is predeceased by her sister Audrey Wilber, her sons Mark Henderson and David Henderson, and her granddaughter Heather.
Services will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 at the First Congregational Church in Hanover - visitation at 10:00 am, memorial service at 11:00 am, followed by procession to the Washington Park Cemetery in Norwell for a final prayer service. Visit www.mcnamara-sparrell.com for guestbook.
