Peter Sweeney Obituary

Peter W. Sweeney of Scituate, Ma. passed away peacefully at home in his beloved wife’s arms on May 25th, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Son of the late Robert F. Sweeney and Joanne (Woods) Sweeney, Pete is survived by his devoted wife Joan (Branton) Sweeney; his loving brother Robert Sweeney, his wife Lorraine Sweeney and his niece and nephews Lauren, Matthew, and Dan Sweeney; his loving sisters and brothers in law Carol Branton, Virginia and Edward Lizotte, Margaret Watson and Paul Gearin, and Ann and William Branton; nieces and nephews Acadia and Dave Jewett, Thomas and Caroline Watson, Wil, Rosalie, and Olivia Branton.
Pete was born in Chicago and moved to Scituate where he lived for over 50 years. He was a 1980 graduate of Providence College in Rhode Island. During his college years, Pete served as equipment manager for the P.C. Friars and the 1980 Olympic Basketball team, both under Coach David Gavitt. In his professional life, Pete was a Vice President of the Information Technology Division of State Street Bank. After a successful career of over 30 years he retired in 2016. He enjoyed scuba diving, reading, travel and gardening with his wife Joan, along with the companionship of their faithful dog Bella who was a great comfort in Pete’s final days.
Most importantly, Pete lived his life with honesty, integrity, and a tender and fun-loving heart. He was a loyal and affectionate husband, a brother you could always depend on, and a most trusted friend. His circle of loved ones will always remember his words of encouragement and his reassuring pat on the back.
