Richard Carver Joseph, age 91, of Boynton Beach, FL., formerly of Norwell, passed away on December 12, 2020. Husband of the late Helen L. (McMahon) Joseph. He is survived by his nephew Derek L. Gardner of Pleasant Valley, NY. Devoted stepfather of Maureen Ward of Pembroke, MA. and loving grandfather of Briana and Lily Ward of Pembroke, MA. and a long time true friend and companion, Carolyn Kwasnofsky of Boynton Beach, FL. Brother of the late Mary J. Gardner of NY.
Richard was a graduate of Norwell High School, Class of 1947. He attended Stockbridge School at the University of Mass. Amherst, MA. He attended Northeastern Univ. where he graduated with a B.S. in Law Enforcement. Richard graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy for local police officers.
Mr. Joseph served in the US Army as a combat infantryman in the 5th Regimental Combat Team during the Korean War. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with two battle stars, UN Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Richard was a retired police officer who served 33 years on the Norwell Police Department. He served as Acting Chief of Police from 1978-1980, retiring as Sergeant in 1994. He was a member of the International Chiefs of Police Association and Norwell Police Association. Mr. Joseph was also a life member of the American Legion and Past Finance Officer of the American Legion #192, Norwell, MA.
A Graveside Service will be held in Washington Street Cemetery, Norwell, MA on January 5, 2020 at 1 pm.
